Whether they are admired or despised, Hellborn stand out in a crowd of any size. Each has a fiendish origin, most often a lesser fiend climbed the family tree, but some come about when a parent meddles with dark otherworldly magic. Despite their dubious pedigrees, they tend to have charming, outgoing demeanors. All Hellborn have more than a touch of fiend in them: the scent of sulfur and brimstone, small horns crowning their heads, hoofed toes, or even a tail or vestigial wings. Hellborn quickly learn to conceal their fiendish traits. Many are gifted with an intuitive grasp of sorcery; others are adept rogues, spies, and assassins. Some find more legitimate work leveraging their charisma as vagrant troubadours or diplomats.

A daring band of smugglers and burglars has the Barrowgate constabulary at their wits’ end. Their calling card is a bent fork drawn in charcoal found at the scene of every caper; the locals have named them the Bent-Tynes. Unbeknownst to Barrowgate's Watch, the gang counts many Hellborn among their ranks. The leader is the scholar turned rogue Drengal Threeprongs.
